Catherine Marcangeli

Catherine Marcangeli is Senior Lecturer in Art History and Literature in the British and American Studies Department at Paris-Diderot University. She studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and at Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle University. Her PhD dealt with the question of “Quotation in American Art since the 1950s”. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and worked as an intern at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A specialist of British and American art 1950s-1980s, she has lectured at museums in the US, Britain, Italy and France. As the executor of the Adrian Henri Estate, she has edited his Selected and Unpublished Poems, 1965-2000 (LUP, 2007), developed the website adrianhenri.com and catalogued his Total Art archive. She has also curated exhibitions of his work in the UK and abroad, including Adrian Henri—Total Art at LJMU’s Exhibition Research Centre, as part of the 2014 Liverpool Biennial, and First Happenings at the Institute of Contemporary Art, London, 2015. She edited Adrian Henri—Total Artist (Occasional Papers, London, 2014), and is planning an exhibition of his work in Japan, in 2016.

Catherine Marcangeli est Maître de Conférences à l’U.F.R. d’Etudes Anglophones, Université Paris-Diderot, où elle donne des cours d’histoire de l’art et de littérature. Elle est normalienne agrégée d’anglais et son doctorat portait sur la Citation dans l’art américain depuis les années 1950. Elle était boursière Fulbright à l’Institute of Fine Arts de New York University, et stagiaire au Metropolitan Museum. Spécialiste d’art britannique et américain 1950-1980, elle a donné des conférences dans des musées aux USA, au Royaume Uni, en Italie et en France. En tant qu’exécutrice d’Adrian Henri, elle a édité ses Œuvres choisies et inédites, 1965-2000 (Liverpool University Press, 2007), elle a créé le site web adrianhenri.com et a catalogué ses archives littéraires et artistiques. Elle a monté des expositions de ses œuvres au Royaume Uni et à l’étranger, dont Adrian Henri—Art Total dans le cadre de la Biennale de Liverpool (2014), et Premiers Happenings à l’Institut d’Art Contemporain de Londres (ICA, 2015). Elle a édité le catalogue Total Art (Occasional Papers, Londres, 2014) et travaille sur une prochaine exposition sur Adrian Henri, au Japon fin 2016.
